Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a ruddy burnt orange to amber sort of color. Off white foamy head dissipated fairly quick leaving some speckled lace.
The aroma blended some piney bitter hops to orange citrusy hops and then some toffee malts underneath. Bursts of rye sweetness flow out to make a decent effort to blend, warming spice from the rye cracks the background.
The flavor pressures the rye to lead with a balanced spicy to sweet contour and then the pineyness, orange citrusy hops and toffee malts flow in to embrace the backbone. Spicy to sweet to bitter aftertaste. Mildly balances it all into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Spice seems to be quite controlled and yielding to a nice harshness. Good carbonation.
Overall, rye IPA? Yup, sure is and a good one too.

A reddish amber ale with a thick creamy brown head. In aroma, a nice roasted malt with light herbaceous and floral hops, earthy and good. In mouth, a smooth crisp ale with nutty notes, earthy, British hops, medium bodied. On tap at brewpub, July 12 2010 .
