Smooth, chocolatey Brown Ale with powerful citrus notes courtesy of a generous hopping with Chinook, Cascade, Centennial and Talus. Pours very dark brown with a cappuccino head there’s subtle cold-brew coffee in the aroma but unlike a Porter or Stout there’s no roastiness or astringency; this beer is all about big, zesty grapefruit, orange and pine resin notes intersecting with deep levels of rich malt flavour. Full flavoured and full bodied with a delicious creamy texture and restrained bitterness.

Very dark brown beer, thick off-white head. Smell has citrus, pine, malt, a little toffee. Flavour has bitter orange, toffee again, toasty malt, a little pine, some bitter hop. Lovely balance and it's super punchy for the strength. The malt and citrus linger into the finish. It's quite warming and hearty this but with the zingy fruit cutting through that a bit.

Cans from Cork & Cask and Against The Grain. Hazy brown body with a beige head. No visible carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of caramel, pine and peach. Flavour of fig, orange and toffee. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. This is really nice, exactly what I hoped it would be. Simple Things can brew any style and are one of Scotland’s best breweries. I’d love to see them brew a black IPA and maybe a style series of some kind.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep brown, kinda cola colour. Fluffy, beige head. Nose - chocolate, brown bread, hazelnut and pine. Taste - pine, toffee, hazelnut and malt loaf. Palate - light to medium bodied, creamy and roasty finish. Overall - nice beer, as the description implies, quite a hopped brown ale.
