Can from Marshall's farm shop, Aberdeenshire. It pours hazy darkest red with a decent off-white head. The aroma is sweet - sour, resinous, sappy, fruity berry vibes, some jammy fruits, light vanilla, toffee, whisky soaked fruit cake, Christmas cake, marzipan, candied orange, marmalade and fortified wine. The taste is firmly dry, bitter, sappy, piney, resinous, warming booze, whisky soaked oak, light tannin, toffee, whisky fudge, bitter orange, hint of campari, dried fruits , fruit cake, marzipan, toasted almonds, burnt toast, umami and liquoricey Tullibardine whisky with a slick finish. Fulsome body and fine, prickly carbonation. Nice depth of flavour. Even though I am not a huge fan of Tully whisky this works well.

Can from Appellation Wines. Pours clear mahogany with a thin beige head. Aromas of fruitcake and caramel. Heavy on the mixed peel. Taste is lightly spicy, red fruit, raisin, citrus peel again, almost a suggestion of marzipan. Slight wood spice. Barrel influence is slight, but it's there. Well balanced. Good stuff.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - deep reddish brown with orange chinks. Creamy, beige coloured head. Nose - dried orange and sweet cakey notes. Getting into raisin. Taste - yep, raisins and fruitcake. Some wood, toffee and then orange zest, cleans it up. Palate - medium to full bodied, sweetness then dry and woody through middle and finish. Overall - there's something a bit gnarly about this, but it keeps you coming back for more. It's monumental!

Can from Cork & Cask. Ruby body with a beige head that slowly fades. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of glazed cherry and toffee. Flavour of caramel and tobacco. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. Another great red beer from 71 after their excellent Just For Kicks.
