Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a large fluffy brown head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was roasty, dryish, malty and had notes of wood and cocoa. The flavor was bitter, roasty and a touch smokey with wood, cola, coffee and a hint of cocoa. Medium length finish. Medium bodied and smooth. Ok.

Sample during the "Collaboration Beers On Deck 2!" event on 08/13/2017. This beer is a dark brown color with a medium tan head that diminishes quickly to a dense film. Small patches of lace. Aroma of roast malt, coffee and slight hops. Medium body with a roasty malt and coffee character with dark fruit and mild earthy hops in the background. The finish is roast malt and chocolate. Decent overall.

Was having trouble putting my finger on what seemed off about this beer, but the description states its a "gluten-reduced" stout, so maybe that's the issue. Has the prerequisite coffee-tinged roasted notes and a fine chocolate backbone, but there's an acidity to the middle that becomes cherry-metallic and off-putting, like someone put a penny on my tongue mid-swig. Finish is nice and dry, though, and the texture's to die for, thick and creamy and perfect for a stout.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Signal Variety. Appearance is virtually opaque dark, dark brown and red; 1/2 finger-width beige head with poor retention and trace lacing. Aroma is roasted malts with cocoa, hint of anise and dark fruits. Taste is roasted malts, molasses, light anise and bitter end. Palate is medium-to-full bodied with thick texture, average carbonation and bittersweet finish. Overall, some interesting aromas and flavors.
