Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a very deep amber with a thin brown head that starts and remains at the edges. Aroma has a good amount of bread with hints of dark grains and toffee underlying. Flavor has bread and light roast notes throughout with a touch of toffee backing.

Cask. Thicker than the tap version. Brown-orange. Big off-white/beige head. I get some butter in the aroma, but it works with the smooth caramel malt tones. Mellow cask non carbonation. Sweet with a touch of nutty toffee. Relatively true to style, hard to tell if the off flavors are intentional or not. OK, but sort of misses the mark too.

Cask at the downtown Madison location. Murky orange-brown body, medium-thick cream head. Light peaty aroma. Toasty body with caramelized brown sugar, earthy, with a delicate sweetness. Rather light and watery, but I liked the interplay of peat and delicate, sweet malt and earthy tones.
