Sample at the DBLDP on 09/02/2012: The beer pours a hazy amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes slowly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of bready malt, mild hops and fruit. Medium body with flavors of grainy malt, ripe fruit and faint hops. The finish is mildly hoppy with a short malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Purchased at La Pasida something (can’t remember) in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago, IL; enjoyed while making my first all grain homebrew and sweating during it. Appearance is a slightly clear gold with a thin white head that laces to the glass. Aroma of lager yeast, lemon, a bit of pepper, smells nice. Taste is nice and refreshing, lemon and pepper notes, goes down pretty crisp. Pretty nice brew, another solid one from the series.

Bomber bottle. When I’m hit with a nice "beer" smell as I pop the cap, I know I can’t go too far wrong with my choice. This has that kind of smell. Pours a very orange body, under a very thin bubbly head. Taste is hard to pick out those black peppercorns. It’s very malty, and sticky as generic pancake syrup. Lots of honey and some Belgian malts goes into this, too. Hops seem to have been held back to make room for the pepper, but that just punches up the malt taste more.

Thanks to Dough77 for sending this one. Starts out with a large creamy head of light brown that sits above a dark amber body. Good malty aroma that is followed by a big malty flavor. There was a spicy bite in the finish that puzzled me until I read the label and saw the peppercorns listed as an ingredient. I don’t know how peppercorns fit into the standard Doppelbock as an ingredient, but they get away with it this time. Nice beer.

Tastes like a maibock to me, and a very tasty one at that - kind of a musty, earthy aroma, with caramel malt, bright fruity esters, a hint of tartness - a little spicy both up front and on the back end - lots of strawberry, cherry and other light berry flavors - perhaps a little overly sweet, sticky caramel flavor, but this is easy to overlook - the hops and spice do a decent job of balancing it out near the end - Two Brothers beers never get the credit they deserve.
