Germans occasionally refer to hefeweizen as “Flaschenbrot,” or bottled bread. pFriem Hefeweizen certainly starts with wheat and yeast, though a pint of it is also packed with flavors of fresh banana, aromas of lemon meringue and notes of cloves and nutmeg. Take a sip, and we think you’ll realize there’s more than just bread in this bottle.

Bottle: Poured a slight hazy blonde color Hefe with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of nice wheat malt notes with light bubble gum and bready yeast notes. Taste is a very drinkable mix of wheat malt notes with some bubblegum notes, some residual sugar and a bready yeast finale. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Well brewed according to style with very good drinkability.

On tap at Bottleworks, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Nose brings out fresh wheat, some clove, a touch of banana and a slight hint of citrus. Flavour is very fresh, with loads of wheat and banana upfront, followed by a touch of clove and citrus. Brewed correctly to style, with everything in good balance. Nice hef.
