Tradditional dark porter made with English Maris Otter malt and lightly hopped with whole English hops. Deliciously smooth and satisfying and a great alternative to mass produced keg stouts.

Cask at Cloisters, Edinburgh. Pours dark brown, reddish hue. Thin beige head. Aroma of chocolate, nuts and a hint of smoky bacon, some spice notes too. Taste has more of the same, an intriguing mingle of flavours. Long finish. Good.

On cask at Cloisters. Appearance -close to opaque black but with some red chinks around the edges. Nice head. Nose - hazelnuts and chocolate. Then it opens out to honeycomb and there’s a hint of the liquorice on the end. Perhaps some spice in the same way as it happens with rye beer. Taste - more of the same with the chocolate and honeycomb particularly coming to the fore. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long elegant finish. Overall - not typical of the porter style in my opinion but really nice result.
