Bottle. Deep brownish black colour with a mediumsized foamy beigeish brown head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is ashes, chocolate, mild liquorice and some toasted tones. Flavour is kind of ashy, some chocolate, mild liquorice and a bit herbal and grassy tones. A bit too ashy for my likes. Most likely too pale malts for getting the colour right and corrected with roasted barley or something like that...

Bottle from Ales by Mail. Pours clear dark ruby brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of light chocolate and hazelnuts. Taste is more of the same. Decent enough for a bottled mild.

Bottled 500ml (AbM)
Dark brown color, small beige head and lace. Light ashyness in the nose with light notes of licorice. Light-bodied. Ash and licorice also in the flavour. Ash expected, quite watery. I prefer a bit more robust dark beers.

Handpull cask at the Anchor, Cambridge. Black with a touch of purple with a small ring of khaki head. Roasted malt and liquorice aroma. Tastes bittersweet with a nicely judged hoppiness in the sip. Long finish leaving blackberry in the aftertaste. Silky body. One of the better milds I have had in a while.
