Gold Rush #4 is the fourth transatlantic cider making collaboration between Tom Oliver (of Oliver’s Cider and Perry) , Greg Hall of Virtue Cider, Michigan and Ryan Burk of Angry Orchard, New York, USA.
A full tasting, sparkling 6.5% cider with some sweetness, balancing acidity and full-bodied tannins. Carefully selected vintage bittersweet and sharp cider apples from traditional Herefordshire orchards were slow fermented by wild yeasts in old oak barrels, then after a malolactic fermentation in the spring, fruit sugar and lambic yeasts were pitched for a second alcoholic fermentation, adding more complexity and alcohol. A bright, rich cider with an ‘apple skins’ nose gives way to a robust taste with a very satisfying finish. Chill and savour this unique cider with family and friends and celebrate the “family of cidermakers” on both sides of the Atlantic and around the world.

500mL bottle, pours a clear amber with a tiny white head. Aroma is lightly funky, with toffee, red apple skins, and a touch of brown sugar. Flavour is modestly funky, with toffee apple, caramel, and red apple skins. Minimal residual sweetness but enough to ward off that bone dry residual character. Decent funk to it. Nothing amazing but this is well-done as usual for Oliver's.

Fucking tasty brew. Imported via Anxo, marked up, sold wholesale to Press in Seattle, marked up, purchased & shipped back to the east coast. Lo-ball glass @home. L5133 09:27 stamp on the cap. Dark honey, clear, half spritz sort of pour. Looks like an old fashioned once it settles. Lovely level-headed cheesy, tea-brined, sweat apple farm funk nose. Taste is heavy on bittersweet apple skins, semi-sweet honey texture & so much black tea-like astringency. Bit of lemon tartness, but enough sugar to not get sharp. Pithy middle to end, touch of veg. Very innocent earthy funk on the actual taste. Hidden acid. Semi-sweet with incredible popsicle stick dry mouth. This really does taste like heavy steeped lemon iced tea. Mild, barely there carbonation. Tacky feel. This is almost what I always wanted. Lacks contrast, but drives in one direction pretty damn well.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. A Shelton Brothers import - so likely oldish as they are just going through the last days of bankruptcy. Some bankers should rot in hell. Pours clear darkish copper with bubbles. Lightly sour/tart apple skin aroma. Med body. Flavor is apple skin astringent/lightly tart. Wood is definitely present. It does not seem age damaged. Excellent for the ? Style? Ah - it tastes really good. Last rate was 2017!

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - golden amber with steady bubbles. Nose - sour apples and apple skins. Taste - more dry apple skins. Generally dry apple notes. Palate - close to medium bodied. Nice tangy dry texture that goes through the finish. Long and dry. Overall - good. Almost like a still scrumpy.

Aroma is moderate to light heavy apple, sweet apples, concentrated apple syrup - concentrated apple. Flavor is moderate sweet with a long duration, sweet apple, tart apples, apple skin. Bottle @ Aarhus tasting, my place. Small head with short duration. Color is golden. Aroma and taste are rich tart apples, sulphur, fruits, stable and has a nice dry finish. Great cider.
