Tap @ The Bridge St. Louis. Pours a brown appearance with a tan head. Caramel malty, earthy, somewhat roasty aroma. Toasty caramel malty, lightly nutty, mild coffee flavor. Ok.

Bottle. Nutty sourdough aroma that reminds me of a funky Belgian yeast. Chestnut with a small tan head and some spotty lacing. Funky sour yeasty flavor, as well as some nutty chocolate, and light hops in the finish. This is the second brown ale I’ve had recently that seemed to have a funky sour Belgian yeast thing going on.

Bottle. Deep brown body with a frothy, tan head, rapidly diminishing. Aroma of roasted malt and metal. Hint of raw grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, chewy texture, lively carbonation. A rich brown ale with some nut and chocolate tastes that could have used a little more bitterness to balance the malts. Metallic flavor evident throughout.

Roasted and toasted malt aroma. Biscuit, pretzel, and a bit of earth, too. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is full of toasted biscuit malts, light roasted malt, and some earthy hops. Nice.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours dark brown with about half a finger of khaki head. Aroma of light chocolate and caramel with a small dose of pine. Taste is light bitter. Mostly coffee with a little chocolate. Nothing strong here at all. Medium bodied with a somewhat thick texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, not bad. Not worth the price though.

Argonaut, DC tap: Pours a dark brown color with a small head. Aroma is of caramel malts. Basically, this was a pretty uninteresting, but very well-made brown ale. Lots of malts; some sweetness; few hops. Worked out well and would be easy to session.

This brown ale poured an almost black colour with a big, creamy, tan coloured head. to the nose there are scents of molassass, ripe fruit, coffee and roasty caramel. First swig was full flavoured with a slightly burnt sweet malt flavour, nutty, molassass and slightly sweet. finish was roasty with sweet roasted malt flavours lasting indefinatly.

Tap at Pizzeria Paradiso. Dark maroon, edge head. Aroma of milk chocolate and butterscotch. Taste of coca cola and root beer, slightly sweet and highly carbonated. Nice.
