Draught @ Duque Brewpub in Lissabon. Pours cloudy copper brown with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of yeast, malt and caramel, with touches of hops. Sweetish flavour of barley wine yeast and malt, with notes of fruit and burnt sugar and touches of hops and roast. Warming alcohol presence. Very well-balanced. Lingering, roasty, malty and estery aftertaste. Decent stuff.

Botella 33 cl en el Kraken 21..07..2018. (r03). Lote L1732. Fcpref 06..2019. Color bronce oscuro turbio con espuma beige que desaparece por completo al poco tiempo. Sabores maltosos caramelizados tostados, frutos secos, ligeras maderas mojadas. Cuerpo medio a intenso con buena sensación alcohólica, fino y bastante sabor. Poco amargo seco al final. Buena para repetir.

Re-rating (previous 3.9) Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 17D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch L1931 (BBF 11.2021). AROMA: medium-high and excessive alcohol notes with an overall solventy note. medium-low background notes of malt with a caramel character. APPEARANCE: amber color and clear. medium-low beige moussy head with good retention. lace formation. TASTE: medium-high alcoholic flavor with solventy notes, overpowering everything. slight yeast presence and hints of roasted malt. medium and balanced bitterness. finishes dry. odd low wet wood presence although the label doesnt say its barrel aged. PALATE: medium-high body. strong alcohol warmth. medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: a barleywine with fermentation issues that overwhelms everything else.
