Shadowy, foreboding and mysterious...describes many a winter's night on the Dark Peak. It also captures the essence of the Black IPA, with six types of malt to give it a black opaqueness and almost caramel sweetness, all balanced out with a defined piney bitterness from the Pacific Northwest hop combo of Centennial and Cascade.

On tap at Man in the Moon. Pours dark brown with a light beige head. Woody pine, some roasted malts on the nose. Flavour has dry old pine, stale rye bread. Fairly tired hop expression.

On tap at Man in the Moon, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma has roasted malt, some diacetyl, and earthy hops. Flavour is better, with roasted malt, earthy hops and a hint of bitter. The balance is good and the depth of the malt drowns out the butter but it’s still suboptimal.

Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Roast upfront with coffee, dark chocolate, piney hop, notes of orange, pine. Long roasty and bitter finish. Yum good BIPA, firm roast. A fuller body would have put this in the upper echelon.

440ml can. Pours pitch black with a beige head, good retention, been a while since I've seen one look this good! Aroma of dark chocolate, roast malts, some sweet molasses and caramel, piney bitterness, bittersweet overall. Medium bodied. A great BIPA.

Can at home, 23rd December 24. Pours a black beer. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, taste is bitter, cocoa, roasted malts, smooth, then runs a bit sweet. It’s not bad
