Sample, thanks fonefan! Dark brown, minimal head. Aroma of licorice, calvados and honey. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Seriously peppery with sake and calvados, some salmiak and treacle. Intense warming finish. A welcome break with a more alcoholic, dryish 14% dark beer - was kind of expecting the usual syrupy mess you get these days.

33 cl bottle poured into a Snifter. Near black with no head. Sweet aroma with liqourice, booze, over ripe fruits and toasted bread. Taste is sweet. Medium bodied, no carbonation, feels rather thin for a 14 % beer. Sweet finish with over ripe fruits and dark malts. A bit basic, yet flavourfull, disappointing palate.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, reddish dark brown with no head whatsoever - completely flat. Sweet boozy aroma, lots of overripe dark fruits. Body is only medium, more overripe fruits and toffee than roast, vague honey notes with a very boozy finish. If you think of it as a desert wine or an old style British Barley Wine, then you’re expetations is more in sync with what this beer delivers. Not sure I understand the hate. 060417
