A historic saison style beer made with calendula and homegrown yarrow flowers yielding a hugely aromatic brew that’s dry and bitter. It’s an excellent aperitif and always ready about a month and a half after the first spring yarrow flowers.

Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart and Brett notes with some light oak and funky ester. Taste is a nice mix between some hay flavours with some notes of Brett and funky ester and a light tart finish with some oak presence that is noticeable. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nice saison with loads of complexity while retaining some great drinkability.

A hazed golden saison with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet fruity malt with lemony notes, woody notes, light Brett, curacao, very nice. In mouth, a tart sweet fruity malt with light Brett, light lactic notes, curacao, tart and refreshing. Bottle at Ottawa Xmas gathering 2015.

750ml bottle pours out a straw color topped with a fluffy white head. Nose is a mix of floral spice perfume and and yeast notes. Taste is more of the perfume floral spices and lots of herbal.

Bottle - Funky grape, acidity and some apricot notes. Hazy gold orange with a rich white head. Up front tartness, some cheesy fund and apricot. Nice, light, tart and little of the aromatics or herbal notes from the original.

Bottle - Sweet herbal malts, light honey and citrus and more sweetness. Clear gold with a rich white active head. Much like it smells, pretty sweet and well carbonated. An interesting drink for sure, I can see this going very well with food, but on its own a bit sweet.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a cloudy orange with large frothy white head that lasts. The aroma is strong citrus and funk. Medium mouth with nice citrus, funk, tart, really enjoyed this.

The beer is a medium yellow gold with a puffy white head. Good lacing and retention. The liquid is quite cloudy. Fairly strong floral character, somewhat medicinal. Nice fresh grain and saison yeast underneath the flowers. Taste is moderately bitter for the style. Grassy, herbaceous, vegetal in a funny way. Again, the saison base seems very nice, earthy, soft and gently sweet, but the floral flavor is a bit strong and kinda off for me. Mouthfeel is creamy and full but still pretty light. Interesting twist on their normal stuff but I’m not a big fan of the specific flower addition. Just too much of that herbal, medicinal flavor.

The beer pours a dull orange amber color. It’s quite cloudy. The head is smallish and creamy with fine bubbles. Dissipates quickly. The aroma is floral with lacto sourness and a mild oak note. Orange peel, yogurt and flowers. Taste is gently tart with underlying floral sweetness. Tasty stuff. Lots of citrus flavor, oranges and lemons. Medium oak. Earthy saison character in the background. Finishes fairly dry. Gentle, creamy mouthfeel that really adds to the beer. Easy to drink. Lots of flavor. Delicious beer.

Had this at the 2014 RB Pittsburgh Summer Gathering at Horny Devil’s place. Actually it was after the equinox at the beginning of fall, but DILLIGAF. Big thanks to James & Michelle for hosting such a nice spread of quality beers and for this particular beer a GIANT thanks goes out to beerman6686. Slight tart aroma. Cloudy pale with a tad of brown in there. Good sizzle augmented by a slight tart bite. Yes, slight friendly tart nibble. Not a whole lot of bitterness but enough in there to keep you aware this is beer. Overall quite easy going and fun to be with.

Bottle courtesy of Håkan (non-RB). Pours hazy vibrant orangish yellow with a big frothy white head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of sticky lacing on the glass. Smell is herbal and floral with crackers, dried flowers, spearmint, hay, dry soil and orange zest. Taste is slightly bitter and floral with crackers, dried flowers, hay, dry soil, minerals, grapefruit rinds, white pepper corns, orange zest and lemon zest. Mouthfeel is soft, dry and light to medium bodied. Finish is bitter and floral with crackers, dried flowers, dry soil, hay, orange zest and lemon zest. Surprising considering how the BA version played out but yet quite tasty.
