1/2/2019. Cask at the XT Brewing tap takeover at the New Inn, Colchester. As XT 8 Porter (Summit, Brambling Cross), same abv looks to be a rebadge of this. Pours mid to dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, hops and dark fruit with moderate roasting. Moderate sweetness and moderate roasted bitterness, and body. Oily texture, very soft carbonation. It's not really a brown ale but then it's a slight stretch to call it a porter too.

Bottle from brewer's own stall at the Thame Food Festival. Brown with a thin tan head and a middling fizz. Chocolate and brown sugar with a touch of smoke and some oaky vanilla. There's a little red wine and some dry leaves. It's on the sweet side with just enough dryness and bitterness to balance it leaving a lasting roastiness in finish. Really good stuff, oddly far better than the barrel-aged version I'd tried previously.
