Reviewed from notes.
Can to tulip.
Appearance: dark brown in the pour but seems closer to black in the glass with a two finger khaki frothy head which dissipated at a nice pace to leave some light lace
Aroma: dark malts, dark chocolate, light notes of black coffee with some pine and grapefruity hops
Flavor: blends the prior noted aromas to a fine roasty to bitter to semi-sweet quality; finishes piney to dark malty and a touch of chocolate
Texture: medium bodied, leaning to being a sipper; light smoothness but not exactly a true "palate wrecker" as it seems the sharpness from the grapefruit and piney hops seems a bit tamer than expected and does not truly get cohesive with the dark chocolate bitterness and coffee tones
Overall: I mean - don't get me wrong there's some nice things about this black IPA that seem to be tracking but when it comes to the texture I need to know that this is a beer leading up to the style that should want to be the ender of one's beer drinking night.

Pours a dark brown, verging on black, with mid-sized tan head. Aroma is roasted grain, some pine, some malt. Flavor is roasted grain, malt, a touch of pine, some chocolate/coffee. Smooth mouthfeel. Mild bitterness at finish.

Tap, at the brewery. Dirty, really dark brown. Barely a head. Nose has dark, chocolate and coffee malt. Grapefruit pith and pulp. Sweet orange. Taste has earthy bitterness. Some sweet chocolate. Medium body. Fine carbonation. Lingering bitterness to finish. Nice CDA.
