Our premier beer. Brewed for sale in 330ml bottles this extra strong Old Ale is the stuff of legend. Dark as midnight with a flavour that defies description. To taste this ale is to step back into a time when nanny governments did not exist and people could find real beer. We do let this out into the world in cask but we advise it sold as HALF pints only.

Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival. KEGS. Cask. Almost opaque dark brown beer, no head. Palate is smooth with decent fine carbonation. The malts are rich and lead to a little spice. Good vibrant dark fruits with ripe plummy cherry fruits on top. Touch of brett. Light crispy finish. Good stuff, flavoursome and drinkable.

The Compasses, Gt Totham. Cask. The Compasses have been the sole stockists of this beast and their drop test show the beer has run on to an estimated 13.2%! It’s smooth with very little carbonation. Sherry and Port tones are to the fore and the cherry character appears to have got stronger as well. Ripe fruits in the background. Interesting stuff!
