Solid imperial stout, big and heavy without being overly sweet or boozy. Tons of chocolate and smoke on the nose, with a brown-black pour and a teensy beige head giving up minor lacing. Starts with chocolate-covered raisins and a dried cherry undercurrent, then quickly dries out with layers of coffee and anise. Finishes bitter and smoky, roasted java and bakers chocolate leading to a warm, pleasant fade. Great texture, thick but not chewy, strong but not astringent or hot. Good pint.

Small to medium, receding beige head over black beer. Heavy bitter chocolate & coffee nose, bit of tarr, dark green leaves, something salty-fishy. Bitter, very roasted to burnt flavour, coffee & bitter chocolate, touch of old wood. Dark roasted malts, breadcrust. Well-bodied, good carbonation, quite slick. Long-lasting flavours. Revolutionarly I.S.?? As to what, please? It’s arch-classic!
