A rich deep red ale using various red & crystal malts to give a deep red colour, and a chocolate malt to give a chocolate undertone. Dry hopped to give a fruity finish.

Cask at Pied Bull, Chester. Pours a cloudy bitter brown with a small cream head and good lacing. Aroma has malts and grains with a hint of spices. In the mouth it has a slightly creamy texture. It is sweet and malty with rye, nuts, and some underlying old school hops. Followed by a slightly dry finish. This is rather nice – more verging towards a red / rye beer than a straight ESB.

13/4/2019. Cask gravity at Hull Real Ale & Cider Festival, 2019. Pours clear reddish brown with a bubbly/frothy off-white to beige head. Aroma of malt, hops, light chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, biscuit and a little bread. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Nice bittersweet finish. Liked this.

Cask @ Pied Bull, Chester [270115]
Dark caramel brown, slight haze, dense off white head
Aroma of soft caramel malts, very soft dark fruits, faint aroma
Taste of caramel malts, dark fruits, some roast, odd flavour in there, medicinal, nope, poor
Palate - Medium body, soft sweet. Finish - odd medicinal linger, bitter, dryish finish
Overall - Poor. Only had a few sips out of a half....must have been a dodgy batch looking at the other reviews here
