Half-litre flip-top: best before May 2013, poured into a ’Gaffel Kolsch’ glass three times @ home on 16 Nov 2012. Typical Kolsch look: clean, clear and golden, large white head which tries to stay around on each pour (not your typical Kolsch really then, because the head usually buggers off before I’ve even seen it!). The nose and taste are semi-sweet biscuity malty with hints of cereal and hops. No great flavours here, but when do you get those in a Kolsch? I don’t dislike the style: there is nothing to dislike, I just wish the delicate flavours would grow some balls one day and surprise me! This is just above your average Koln brew in my eyes, more for it’s head than flavours to be honest.

Pigs Ear. Bottle. Clear gold beer. Strong wheaty malt nose. Soft palate with moderate carbonatrion. Rich pale malts with a bit of orangey hop. Not bad.

Wenig wässriger Antrunk mit malzigen Beinoten, etwas seifig. Dabei aber süffig, kaum herb, trockener Abgang. Hier weniger intensiv, wenig Getreide, semig. In Ordnung. /9/10/8/9/9

Draught at the brauhaus
Blond color, just a shade darker. It’s a mild beer, with no noticeable characteristics; the very light fruity sweetness is maybe the only sign of the top fermentation; ordinary bitterness. Easy, but not totally bad.

Bottled (from BierZwerg.de). Golden colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is quite big on bready and caramelly malts, also has some citrus fruits, mild earthcellaryness as well as some mild herbs. Flavour is wood, fruits, some earthcellar as well as mild bready malts. Biting carbonation. Some slight harsh grainy notes as it warms up a bit, otherwise quite nice.

Swing-top bottle (BZ, BB 07/2010)
Clear golden color, small white head. Quite grainy, papery aroma. Very sweet malty (for a light lager) with cardboard, corn and hints of diacetyl. Lacks all good things in Kölsch (=citrus hoppy fruityness). Maybe because it is an eco-beer? Where have all the hops gone?
