Starts ok but finishes more bitter than it should. Kind of harsh.

Black, small tan head. Light crackery malt nose and palate. Vague hop bitterness. Drinkable, not memorable

Bomber. Dark brown with a thick head. The aroma seems thick and crackery, but at least has some malt complexity in molasses and smoke notes. It's okay. I mean it's single bock in the body and taste, but if you think of it in those terms the dark sugars and toastiness aren't bad. If you're looking for a doppelbock, yeah, you'll be disappointed at the lack of sugary richness, body and complexity. But then, the list of non-lager breweries that can master a style as technically demanding as doppelbock is not a long list so I'm not surprised.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark color, almost black, with compact head. Some roasted nuts, dark caramel, but also a tiny trace of diacetyl. Correct body strength, moderate sweetness, but not enough malt profile.
Doppelbock is not an easy style and this one doesn’t nail it.
Said so, it’s not a bad beer.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a deep dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is very Englishy, with English malt, metallic notes and light toasted nuts. Flavour is better, with dry toffee, English malts, toasted nuts, and light metallic notes. Better flavour than on the nose. Decent, but a bit too metallic.
