Submersible City

Can. Black beer with a light brown head. Chocolate aroma. Chocolate and roast flavor with coconut and light vanilla. Medium bodied. Chocolate and roast linger with coconut and light caramel.

Eating some butter chicken curry so decided to crack this open to go with it! Modern Times Submersible City Coconut Stout 7% Sweet coconut and roasty dark malts with a touch of dark chocolate in the aroma. It poured a deep light time black with a thin beige foam. On it’s own it was a touch roasty and even acrid with dark chocolate and mild coconut notes. The curry really lightens the acrid notes and smooths it out. The beer becomes dark chocolate, smooth with mild coconut. The curry becomes sweeter, creamier with a bit of light piquant heat and floral spiciness. Great pairing, very nice meal and a solid beer.

On tap at Modern Times - Point Loma, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a small white head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and a touch of coconut. Flavour is light, with plenty of toasted coconut upfront, backed by a hearty roasted malt based. Clean, not too sweet and well-constructed. Excellent.

Tall can from Citysuper in the park. Cola brown pour, puffy off white head. Aroma is classic stout - roasted malt, bread, some dark chocolate and coffee. Not much coconut. Taste has a little more coconut but not really. Generally straight down the middle stout with slightly heavy palate and nice 7% weight. Not bad, especially for $35.
