With our friends from Chengdu, Wild West Brewing, we bring you a punched up IPA, packed with green huajiao straight from Sichuan. Earthy and herbal notes from the peppercorn are balanced with an addition of dried lime zest. Hopped heavily with Simcoe to further pronounce the citrus notes and complement the distinctive peppery, floral aroma of huajiao. Perhaps a little disorienting at first sip but the tingling numb sensation quickly becomes comforting and desirably addictive.

Can from Brewcraft at home. Slightly translucent pale golden pour with dissipating foamy white head. Aroma is strong green zesty huajiao with lime peel, dusty cereal. I like the use of the green huajiao versus the more common variety, goes well with citrus hop and lime. Taste is lemon lime bitter pith blended again with zesty huajiao. Some mild cereal sweetness. Light palate, wish it was a bit more carbonated. First time I’ve had a huajiao beer using the green variety - worth a try for sure but it can be a bit much after a whole can.

Interesting thing going on with the peppercorns. Green peppercorn. Really puts a nice zing to it. Citrus. Pours golden with good head and lacing. Tangy finish. Tap at Kowloon taproom.
