This is a traditional Roggenbier brewed with 30% rye malt and fermented with a Bavarian Hefeweizen yeast. We fermented this beer around 65°F adding some fruitiness to the beer. Big aroma of the spicy rye malt is nicely complimented by fruity flavors and a dry finish.

On tap at the Hop Grenade. It pours a dark amber color with a small off white head. The aroma is malty with hints of plum candy, banana and some light syrupy rye notes. The flavor is malty with some earthy bitterness and a little plum, banana and subtle hints of pepper. Lots of dry malty rye and a hint of roasted malt in the finish. Not bad. It avoids the cloyingly syrupy character that I sometimes get from beers with heavy doses of rye.
