We love turtles and we love stouts and when this idea for a turtle sundae inspired stout came along, we knew it would be fire – but not THIS fire!
Let’s get this out of the way – the art on this can is a top contender for the most insane art we’ve ever released. We MUST give a giant shout out to our in-house Donny for being the most badass artist in the biz. Or on the planet. There we go.
NOW – the beer…is a big boy. It’s a 10% martin house stout – so you know it’s got a nice body and is boozy with some sweetness. To match the turtle sundae profile, we added pecans, fudge, caramel, and vanilla. It’s a liquid sundae and we love it.

Pint can, 2024 vintage. Caramel aroma with notes of pecan, fudge, roasted malt and vanilla. Pours deep brown with a thin mocha brown head that has little retention and a thin ring of lacing. Starts with rich caramel, fudge and roasted malt flavors as well as having a rich, full body and silky smooth mouthfeel. Finishes quite smooth with pecan and vanilla flavors. Rich and flavorful and quite sweet, but good.

16oz can from Tavour. Black pour with a huge, airy brown head. The bubbles pop leaving a thin brown ring. Chocolate and nuts first on the aroma, some caramel. Taste is sweet, fudgy, pecans, toffee and light notes of vanilla. Heavier on the chocolate than the rest of the adjuncts.

Taster. Pours black, with a small, khaki head. The aroma is pretzel, caramel taffy, maple syrup, walnut, and milk chocolate. Sweet and syrupy, with a bit of savory bitterness. Heavy, syrupy, and clean. Sharp and focused, with an on-point aroma.

Continuing with Martin House's record of great labels, Shell Shock has a fine label. I like imperial stouts and the ingredients for this one, really attractive. A 16 oz can that I got at Mr. T's on the east side of Midland several weeks ago, the time is now. My ABGB snifter catches the pour. Black as it can be for the body followed by a respectable top of dark tan foam. The nose is nirvana, enough said. And the drink, well, a bit sweet for my tastes, but still all right, a pastry stout after all. Toffee, vanilla, milk chocolate, grain, hard candy and a bit of earth. Nice sensation. Better than most imperial stouts but if they could dial back the sweetness somewhat...
