The Loyal Federation of Frothfinders was founded over 100 years ago by renowned artist, illustrator and cartoonist William Heath Robinson (1872-1944) and his two famous artist brothers Thomas and Charles, who loved to walk the lush Metroland of Pinner, Hatch End and surrounding towns...in search of a refreshing ale.

The Frothfinders ale is a smooth and well-balanced best bitter, made with five malts giving depth of character; with English hops for gentle bitterness. Maris Otter Malt and Spring Malt from Suffolk provides the base. Overlay some roasted malts - crystal malt adds a toffee flavour and colour, caramalt distinctive sweetness, a chocolate roasted malt a coffee flavour and gives the brown colour. Finally there is a touch of wheat in there for head retention. The English hops hail from Worcestershire and add the smooth and subtle bitterness.

Bottle, gift that Maureen & Dave bought me from the Heath Robinson museum - cheers! The beer's a hazy reddish-amber colour with a white head and a light fizz. Tastes fruity -marmalade and red berries - with light malts and a little pepper. The alcohol shows through - there's a distinct boozy note - but the body is rather watery. The flavour's ok, but the beer feels unfinished; maybe it needs conditioning a little longer? I have another bottle so I might leave it for a few months and see if it improves with age.
