330ml bottle. Clear, darkest copper colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Smoky aroma in ’literally ’"fishy" direction, smoked eel, trout, beechwood ashes, some co-incinerated straw, widely disguised caramel malty basis. Taste is smoky, minimally tart-ish strawy, a touch of clammy, rain-extinguished ashes, hints of greasy, fishy, smoked eel and trout again, roasty malty and grassy hoppy Altbier notes flash up in some caramel malty background’s gaps; slightly thin, insipid, flat carbo. Really nice one overall.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2014 - London. Pours unclear amber-gold with a creamy white head. The nose is all candied ham, caramel and smoke. Medium sweet flavor with loads more honey ham, mild smoked malts, toffee, berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary finish with smoked ham, gooey honey. Very nice stuff.

Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear 2014. It pours hazy amber with a small white head. The nose is rich, smoky, ham, wood, earth, must, damp leaf, leather and some honey sweetness. The taste is bitter-sweet, woody, resin, a lot milder smoke than the nose, honeyed grain, cereal, good hit of alcohol, stewed fruits and pepper with a dry, woody finish. Medium body and fine carbonation.

Pigs Ear. Cask. Hazy deep amber beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light and a little crisp. Nice condition. Sweetish, trace of cream. Sweet dried fruits. Whisper of tea. Light finish. Couldn’t taste any smoke but this beer followed a 13% RIS with smoked malts and maybe that’s why!
