Badonka-Dunkel is a full bodied Dunkelweizen brewed with organic raw Ecuadorian cocoa butter, cocoa nibs, cocoa powder, and vanilla beans. Dunkelweizen is a “dark” version of German-style hefeweizen. The cocoa butter was added in the mash with the wheat and barley while the Cocoa nibs, powder, and vanilla beans were added in the kettle. This light mahogany colored brew was fermented with a blend of Bavarian wheat and ale yeasts, leaving a mild clove and banana character. The clove phenols and banana esters are produced by the yeast during fermentation and are a classic characteristic of German-style wheat beers. It has a velvety soft sweetness with a fruity spicey middle and bready malt finish.

Tap at the Rehoboth Beach brew pub - 23/05/12. Cloudy dark brown in colour with a decent tan head. Wheat, banana, clove, yeast, spice on the nose. Tasted as nose, a little butter, chocolate background, bready. Medium bodied, creamy, smooth drinking.
