An enormous English-style barleywine, this beer is made in honor of Brouwer’s, Fremont’s iconic beer bar...and like our friends at Brouwer’s, this beer is meant to get better with age or at least more entertaining. Faithful to the Emerald Isle roots of this style, Center of the Universe is brewed with Maris Otter and Carafa malts and Magnum, Goldings and Chinook hops. Partially aged in 20 year-old bourbon barrels and blended to achieve an old school balance of exquisite malt, oak, bourbon and badass booze. Get it.

From tap at Brouwers. Pours hazy dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is mild butterish and toffee caramelish. Sweet, vanilla and solid toffee caramelish malty. Sweet and lingering into a smooth caramelish finish. Mild alcohol burn.

On tap for Hard Liver '12, pours a murky dark orangey brown with a small tan head. Aroma of syrup, heaps of caramel, liqueur-covered fruits and licorice. Flavour is sugary sweet with syrup, brown sugar, caramel and candied sugar. Better than the nose suggests, but too sweet for me.
