A smooth, slightly hoppy pale ale with a light fruity nose and made with 100% barley, hops, water & yeast. Delicious! It is named in recognition of Squamish BC’s rich forestry heritage and the expanses of fir, hemlock, cedar, and balsam that dominate the regions beautiful landscape.

Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was hazy golden orange color with a little off-white head that died off at a nice pace. Mild stringy lace.
The aroma had some breadiness and herbal hop quality. Some rye sweetness but not spiciness.
The flavor leans towards the bready malts, semi-sweet and bringing back those herbal malts to persevere through the rye sweetness. Once again, rye is not spicy. Sly rugged malty sweetness in the aftertaste. Subtle malty sweet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sesionability about it. Mild carbonation. ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, English styled amber ale? Possibly and with a decent creativity of the rye in there, too bad it’s only the sweet side of the rye as if it had the spicy portion of it, that would definitely amplify the final score.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a hazy golden orange with a small off-white head. Aroma of quite English-accented malts, some bread and herbal hops. Flavour is very English, with bready malts, sort of like rye bread, English hops and a metallic tinge. Drinkable, but bland and unadventurous.

Draught, at the brewpub, August ’07
Bright golden amber colour. Slightly fruity, slightly honeyish nose barely escapes the ultra-thick head. Caramel overtones with honeyish back notes and fair earthy English hops. A hint of toastiness comes off almost as astringent on the heels of all that caramel. Whether a "pale" or an "amber" (it’s variously billed as both) it’s probably too sweet for either. Not sure where the American hops have gone in this one, they were much needed for balance.
Notes from February ’05: Bright copper colour. Appetizing aroma mixes wood, grapefruit and toast. Earthy, woody bitterness with toasty malts and apricoty, pearlike esters. Sweetish finish with hints of grapefruit. Ar 7 Ap 4 F 7 P 4 O 13 = 3.5
