Brewed for this year’s KillerBeerFest, this is a collaboration beer made with two of our favorite local breweries. We’ve joined forces with The Commons and Upright Brewing to produce two beers for this year’s event. The first is an extra rustic, Belgian rye stout blended with some of Upright’s Barrel-Aged Six, a dark rye farmhouse beer conditioned in barrels with Brettanomyces and cherries.

On tap at The Commons, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma of rye and toasted bread mostly. Flavour is quite sour for a stout, with soured dark fruits, some moderate acidity and moderate tartness. As always with sour touts, not a fan of the style, but for what it is, decent.

Interesting, a Belgian rye stout, IIRC I have never had a rye stout. Aroma is too restrained, but has some good rye bread and cherry notes. I tasted no Brettanomyces in the flavour, but got more cherries, more rye and a good malt backbone. Roast-y finish
