When the first Pale Ales were sailed around the Cape to arrive in India in the early 18th century, outcries of “Zounds! Jolly good! and Huzzah!” were heard across the East Indian subcontinent. Similar exclamations are to be expected when sniffing the piney aroma and tasting the big hops, huge citrus and candy-like malt of pFriem’s own IPA. Drink up, Guv’nor.

Pour is a clear orange with a small white head. Aroma is a pure pine hop. A little caramel malt follows. Flavor is an old school cascade type of hop. Some grapefruit and pine with a slight not so sweet caramel malt. This beer was bottled less than a month ago but I could see this turning into a malt bomb real fast. Decent and fresh as possible is a must.

Draft multiple times at Craft Brewed. Pours a clear copper golden color with a finger of eggshell colored head that dissipates. Lovely piney, citrus-forward nose with dank weed and iyokan pith aromas. Bitter and pithy on the palate, but a golden pineapple haribo gummy bear sweetness underneath. More heady, dank flavors on the palate. Lingering piney, pithy, dank and gummy bears. Not cloying at all, perfectly balanced. Very much as good as anything from Russian River or Lawson's. World class IPA.

On tap at a bar, Portland, Oregon. Pours a slightly hazy amber colour with a small off-white head. Fruity aroma and with something that is close to New-Zealand hops, tropical fruits, orange peel and grass. Fruity aroma of grass, orange peel, grapefruit, pine and hop pellets. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and a medium to heavy bitterness. A hoppy and fruity IPA.

Taster at brewery. Medium golden. Small foamy head subsides to ring. Aroma is light citrus and pine. Taste follows with more of the aroma, a bit of hop sting at the finish.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Rotem’s place. Thanks Rotem. Clear golden. Citric hops aroma, somewhat stale. Flavor has a bit of sweetish malt, bitter hops, slightly stale, and a bit of alcohol. Medium-bodied.
