The color is almost black. The aroma is as expected, plus some phenols. Lean mouthfeel, moderately sweet; rubbery malts, some oxidation, some barrel, a bit too much vanilla, mild presence of milk chocolate, and somehow low bitterness.

Dark brown. Not much head on this one. A bit hazy. The aroma has light toast, a bit of mediocre coffee like that k cup crap, The nose isn’t particularly inviting. Light body, bit fizzy maybe. The porter has a light toast/chocolate but that’s about it. The rum lends some butterscotch, but it’s not that interesting, and doesn’t have any sort of foil in the form of malt sugars. So the balance is off. Also, Appleton isn’t my favourite rum,

650mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out rum barrels upfront, though not very high on the complexity, followed by caramel and a little vanilla. Flavour is well-balanced, with strong rum notes without the alcohol, followed by caramel, a little vanilla and some bready notes. Nicely barrel aged, with a finish of vanilla. Really good.
