Our “Tokitae” has a lot of sentimental meaning to all of us at Pueblo Vida. With many of our staff having a connection to the PNW, “Tokitae” is our Northwest-Style IPA, and one of the three beers we had on tap our first day of business! A little more malt forward and highlighting some of the more traditional pine/citrus notes, this beer is always one of our favorites!

The can design and name reflect life in the PNW...“Tokitae” is a colloquial greeting used by the indigenous Coastal Salish people meaning “nice day, pretty colors.” “Tokitae” is also the name of one of the many ferries you will find crossing the Puget Sound on any given day. The design (by the one and only Saywells Design Co) reflects what it may look like as you cross the Sound on a misty Seattle day!

On tap at Pueblo Vida, pours an opaque cloudy amber orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out piney hops and citrus, with a bit of stone fruits. Flavour brings out lots of piney hops upfront, followed by citrus and a touch of stone fruits. Piney upfront, with a wonderfully bitter and fruity finish. Excellent.

Poured up on tap at the brewpub where it exhibits a hop hazed deep copper body that supports a tan head that leaves behind some sheet lacing. The aroma offers up an inviting bouquet of grassy herbal, mango and pineapple like hoppiness. The taste delivers grassy to pine like bitter hops creating a bit of a woody sensation and then there’s some bitter citrus here and there too. It tries to get juicy with citrus and tropical fruit but a mild slightly roasty malt note comes to the surface and rubs out the sliver of juiciness amid a pleasing degree of bitter hops. Another solid offering.
