Lochiel Brewing’s flagship wee-heavy medium bodied malty brew with a beautiful brown caramelization with an off-white tan head that is spiced with a mild-to-moderate hop aroma and taste. The biggest characteristic of this brew is the earthy, smoky and roasty profile of the body. This guy is what got the ball rolling for Lochiel Brewing.

Panda thanks to Ibrew2or3: Poured a dark bark brown with a frothy off white head. Aroma is sweet rich malts, burnt caramel, nutty. Taste is rich malts, a tad sweet forward but then bitter earthiness comes in. Pretty interesting.

Poured up on tap at the brewery where it exhibits a near clear mahogany colored body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up roasty to dark roasted malts, earthy malts, a thin tobacco sensation, spicy black licorice, toasted bread and a mineral sort of malty note. The taste delivers rich varied malty goodness with dark roasted malts, thin burnt malts, and earthy spiciness and a thin hit of malt sweetness. Toward the finish a bit of sweet toffee is noticed and blends in perfectly, This is rich without being too much so where a tasty flavor balance is achieved. Solid.

On tap at Lochiel, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out dry caramel, toasted bready malt, and toasted nuts. Flavour is very malty, yet very dry, with lots of dry toasted caramel and bready malt. Could use some sweetness to liven this up. All in all, solid stuff.
