Draught at St. Augustine's, Vancouver
Hazy amber color. The malt base has a very strong grainy character, it gets in the way of the hops, so that some citrus peel, bitter orange is not enough to shine. Lean body, almost a Lager, but also some chicory bitterness.
Solid beer, not a modern IPA though.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out light piney and earthy hops, with toasted biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with earthy and piney hops, with a toasted biscuity malt base. Nicely balanced though a rather odd hop character. Solid.

Bottle, Legacy. Bright amber. Bubbly head. This has a nice blackberry note - could be hop or background esters. I have little experience with Enigma at this point. On the palate, I'd say the malts stand out, lots of biscuity, slightly toasty (like low SRM crystal) malt. The fruit is kind of a tayberry/salmonberry sort of thing. Relatively low apparent bitterness. While clearly an American-style IPA, the malts and delicate fruitiness are much more a turn towards classic English ale structure. Full body, and an evenly-balanced finish. I like it.
