12oz bottle pours a lightly hazy, ruby caramel with a thin, creamy lacing head. Nose smells a bit like Hopslam, candy sugar, malts, a little biscuit, candied kumquats, oranges, lime zest. Flavor is sweet, malty, caramel, brown sugar, orange zest, a hint of grapefruit, a little pine sap. Although it’s hoppy, the hops really just round out a high level of sweetness. Full bodied, sticky, bitter finish.

Bottle. Translucent, slightly hazy, fiery orange-red body, medium off-white head. Delicious chewy, sugared grapefruit rind nose with sweet papaya and hints of caramel. Oddly thin, bitter body, first hitting the palate with unbalanced rindy hops bitterness, the malts slowly adding elements of caramel, toffee, and bubblegum. Hints of papaya. Definite alcohol heat. The aroma was the best part of this beer, which faltered in its thin, unbalanced body. This reminded me of a much slimmed down Batch 6000.

12 oz. bottle at the Cyprus Street Plate and Pint in Atlanta. Pours a clear, dark reddish brown with a thin head. The aroma is a very forward citrus and pine hop profile. The flavor is bitter, but well balanced with wheat and rye malts. The palate is heavy and crisp with a sharp bite in the finish and a fresh feel. A classic hop-heavy ale, but well done.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a trappist glass. Pours a dark amber with little off-white head. Low carbonation, medium lacing, and medium body. Taste is dark caramelly malt upfront and finishes quite hoppy (mostly citrus). Sort of between a american strong ale and a barley wine, not a fan.

Bottle courtesy of Greg, in the presence of Mr. Obama. Deep golden color, medium solid white head. Aroma of forests and meadows. Taste is profound hops and malt, very extreme on both. Decent.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark orange-amber color with a medium sized foamy orange-white head that lingered and produced minimal lacing. The aroma was a lovely mix of strong grapefruit, pine, pineapple upside-down cake and cream. The flavor was tangy and sweet with strong notes of pine and pineapple with a bitter and sour toasted caramel undertone. The finish was long and tangy with caramel, pineapple and rum lingering. Thick and smooth body. A touch boozy. Interesting.

Bottle at The Belvidere at Broad on 09/25/2010. Clear reddish amber body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet caramel and floral citrus hop aroma. Sweet caramel and floral flavor. Light citrus notes. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

Picked this up from a Chicagoland liquor store via a Groupon...typically expensive stuff but not this time! Poured from 12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly clear amber with a thin head. Aroma of buttered toast and cereal. Taste is mostly malty, interesting profile of grain and caramel, pretty earthy, not bad stuff. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one, it’s decent though.

Bottle. Pours a deep amber with a slight ruby hue and a near white head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a nice pine and grass hop profile with a nice creamy grain backing. Flavor has more of a citrus hop profile that becomes a bit grassy with a light grain undertone.

Bottle (batch 9871) thanks to badnewsbeers. Pours with a thick, slightly hazy, golden brown body with an off-white head that does not last. Hoppy aroma, citrus, booze, sugar, caramel, burnt brown sugar, florals and a light spice. Taste is big, boozy, light dark fruits, burnt flan, very bitter. Kind of waxy feeling. Rotten orange. Caned pineapple. Big, syrupy body, light bubbles. Noticeable alcohol for the ABV. Not my favorite Bell’s beer to be perfectly honest (my score might be generous).
