Backlog. Hazy deep amber colour with a mediumsized foamy white head. Aroma is floral, some grassy, toffeeish and mild alcohol tones with dried fruits too. Flavour is dried fruits, some bitter wooden tones with mild alcohol sweetness as well as some floral and mild citrusy tones. Somewhat dry palate, so fermented rather dry. OK, but lacks some oomph.

0.33 l bottle @ Albufeira. Pours dark copper with dense, off-white head. Nose is sweet, alcoholic and grainy. In taste there’s some unsophisticated sweetness, but that’s it really. No distinct notes, nothing. Closes with long, sweet finish, has mesium body and average carbo. Not quite good.

Lots of sharp bitterroot, some grapefruit and tangerine peel. Very boozy and bitter. Not too sweet, which is one type of barley wine that I don't like, so there's that at least. Clear maroon pour. Bottle.

bottle , i think, from a wine shop in alvor, portugal. hazy brown, light brown head. dry, nutty, malty, mild, discrete english style barley wine aroma. flavor is nutty, malty, toffee, faint licorice, faint wood, bitter euro hops. tastes like a strong brown ale, with notes from barley wine. alc. well hidden. is very clean with no off flavors except perhaps a little burnt plastic. it did spill over when opened though.I was in maldives 3 years ago and it seems like since then, at last, portugal is also getting its own craft beer scene, with several small craft breweries popping up here and there, and in the fridges of well stocked wine and booze shops. Finally.. Long way to go to catch up to greece though, but if a similar trajectory is followed as with spain and greece, this could get interesting.

F: big, tan, good retention. C: dark brown, hazy, opaque. A: caramel, some red berries, marmalade, fruity, bit sour tones, bit honey, vinous. T: red berries, vinous, fruity, bit cherries, plums, English yeast, alcohol, not very good balanced, medium body, lower carbonation, I know taste of English yeast may be that’s why it is not so balanced, 33cl bottle from Supercor supermarket @ Rua de Aleixo da Mota in Porto.
