Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours almost black with a small scummy tan head and good lacing. Roast malts in the fore in the aroma, alongside coffee and some lactose. In the mouth it is sweet and smooth with a creamy texture. Flavour mainly roasted malts and plums to start with but coffee, chocolate and hints of hops ansd roasted nuts come through later. Finish is dry and slightly bitter. This is quite nice – maybe a bit too sweet.

On cask at The Ship & Mitre, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out plenty of oats, gentle toasted malt, and a hint of earthy cocoa. Flavour is smooth, with oats, dry cocoa, and earthy toasted malt. Smooth, creamy, lightly bitter finish. Nothing special but competently done.

Bradford Beer Festival 2023. Very dark brown with an off-white head. Has a slightly better roasted aroma than taste, slightly more milky in the latter, but still fine nevertheless, also making it easy enough to sup.
