Dark beer with a dry-roasted character thanks to the use of roasted barley. The emphasis on coffee-like roasted barley and a moderate degree of roasted malt aromas from the chocolate malt define much of the character. Hop bitterness is medium.

Keg at Cambridge Brew House, 19/07/22. Black with a decent lasting tan head. Nose is roast malts, charr, cocoa powder, dried fruit esters. Taste comprises light charr, spice, toffee, dark malts. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close. Decent flavoursome stout.

Keg at the brewpub. A dark brown black coloured pour with a lasting creamy tan head . Aroma is dry roast, burnt milk, creamy coffee. Palate is medium bodied, highish carbonation, little creamy. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, dusty roast, little creme caramel. Little thin in the finish. Ok.

Keg tap at the Old Bicycle Shop. Purplish chocolate brown, opaque. No head or visible carbonation. Odd for keg. Marmite, dark chocolate, a hit of funk. Tastes quite sour - and I’d be surprised if this is off as it’s new here. I like a dry stout to have a slight soured note but this is too much, although I get used to it over time. Overripe blueberry and strong yeast in the finish. A bit of carbonation tickles the lips and lifts the body. Some will like it more than me, but I’m not keen.
