Keg at the Lyme Regis taproom, 12/09/21. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent tan cap. Nose is toffee, dried fruits, dark malts, spice. Taste comprises dark malts, charr, ashen tones, toffee, raisins, light cocoa sprinkle. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light drying close. Decent for the style.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Not much of an aroma here – just vaguely malty. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. In the mouth nuts and malts are the main flavours, but there are “bonfire treat” dark foods, toffee, treacle and parkin. Has a creamy oaty texture as well. Finish is malts and treacle. Quite nice – I’ve never had a cask dunkel before.
