Cask-conditioned at the Bag O'Nails, Bristol 12/11/2018. Dark, cola brown, with a moderately-sized, beige, head. Plain chocolate, some coffee, toasted malts and touch of fudge sweetness, before a gentle finish. A pleasant, low-strength, stout.

Bottle on the train home (68011), 25/10/18. Nose is bitter sweet malts, dark chocolate, toffee, dried fruits. Taste comprises chocolate, toffee, raisins, light background hops, dark fruit tang, brown bread, earthy tones. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with a hop sprinkle. Decent flavoursome stout for the ABV.

Cask hand pull at The Guildford Arms. It pours black with a bubbly tan cap. The aroma is rich roasted malt, umami, liquorice, charcoal, some orange peel, touch of marmalade and dull smoke. The taste is pretty dry, bitter, hard roasted malts, ashy, liquorice, burnt toffee, some bitter citrus rind and umami with some peppery spice on what is a rather drying finish. Light - medium body and fine, foamy carbonation. Certainly doesn't lack flavour.. A bit ashy perhaps, but nae bad at all.

Keg at the brewery. Black body with a thin beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of biscuit, coffee and minerals. Flavour of coffee, rust and tart plum. Thin body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. For me, the flavour is a bit tinny. Campervan brew dark beers so well, but I wasn’t particularly keen on this one.

Bottle from Appellation Wines Comely Bank. Appearance - opaque dark brown/black. Nice creamy head. Nose - coffee and chocolate. Light nuts. Taste - roasty notes, then dry chocolate. Bitter roast finish. Palate - medium-ish in body. Dry crunchy middle and finish. Overall - I can see why it's a summer stout. It's a stout but fresh. Not quite into black IPA territory.
