A blend of sour spiced quad, blond and red ales aged for over two years in both wine and bourbon oaks. Traditionally our Vlad the Imp Aler is infused with orange peel and coriander, but for this project we also added elderberries and marionberries to give a fruity, almost wine-like twist to this spirit-forward favorite. On tap at Cascade, pours a deep dark mahogany with a tiny bubbly head. Aroma reveals a confusing array of notes, with dark red berries, orange peel, and bourbon and wine barrels. Flavour is well-integrated, with red wine barrels, a touch of bourbon, and an interesting and bewildering array of dark red fruits. Somewhat vinegary but tastefully so. Solid experiment.
