Oats bring a creaminess and soft mouth-feel to the roast malt character in our classic oatmeal stout. The Poet is a perfect representation of balance and one of America’s leading oatmeal stouts.

Draught @ Ginger Man. Clear dark brown with reddish tint, small beige creamy head, faint roasted malt aroma, low carbonation, slightly sweet roasted malt taste, thin body, medium bitter roasted finish. Very smooth and easy to drink.

This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a dark brown color with a slim glazing of off-white foamy head. Barely any lacing but what there is slides down.
The smell had a rich sweet chocolate to roasty coffee, decadent.
The taste was rich and subtly sweet smooth chocolate. Light vanilla adds to balance and leaves a slight sticky sweet aftertaste leading into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability to sipping quality about it. It’s got a good thickness running in and out along my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good oatmeal stout ranging on the sweet side. Makes for a nice night cap on a chilly Spring night.

12 oz bottle purchased as part of a mix a six at K-7 Liquors in Shawnee, Kansas. I believe 4244 is stamped on the neck, though it is a little unclear. The pour is an opaque brown black with a solid one inch tan head. The aroma is roast along with nutty malt. The taste is roast, slightly char malt up front, then moving into an earthy mineral in the back. Some nutty caramel light sweetness comes out as the beer warms. Nice balance to flavors. The palate is medium to light bodied, active carbonation and a dry mineral finish. Tasty beer.

I like this. Well balanced and rich at the same time. Notes of coffee, dark chocolate and nut. Medium bitter finish. Pours black with mocha head and lacing. Thick consistency. Tap.
