Vines is a series of barrel aged wild ales inspired by natural wines.
Each batch is blended based on the grape varietal at hand, and fermented based on the state those grapes are in (whole cluster, de-stemmed, lightly pressed skins, etc.). The result is a unique collection of beers that incorporate wine grapes in all forms, and showcase process as much as ingredients.
Version 2 is a blend of wild, golden ales that we barrel aged, then refermented on 2019 de-stemmed Riesling grapes, to showcase notes of zippy lemon, tart green apple, and light minerality.

Bottle from the brewery. Hazy yellow pour, with a large white head. Very vinous aroma, funky white wine, and soft earthy barrel notes. mouth feel was full, and lively, with a very active carb. Finish was medium bitter, with a sweet white wine quality, with a slight mustiness.

(500ml bottle c/o Herbalist, thanks!) Pours lightly hazy pale straw gold with a tiny head of white bubbles. Aroma is built around aromatic Riseling grapes as expected, with candied lemon, soft tropical fruit, touch of obvious 'grape', ample slightly spicy wood and a good helping of dusty slightly mulchy funk. Flavour is quite dry and very lightly tart, with a pleasing minerality reminiscent of many Riesling wines. Again notes of candied lemon, green apple, pit fruit skins, tropical estery suggestion of sweetness, moderate tannic oak, dusty light funk, beautifully crisp wine-like finish. Lighter body, nice effervescent carb. Excellent wine grape brew, nice execution that reads as an elegant wine hybrid. (As a side note, while the contemporary use of 'varietal' is often as an adjective in the form 'varietal wine', to describe a wine made with a single type of grape, the original zoological/botanical use was as a noun effectively equivalent to variety. Most dictionaries today will list both, and the example of the latter is often to describe a variety of wine grape!)

Pale and hazy. Lots of stone fruit, a bit weedy, and bretty. On the palate, it's got some sweetness, still bretty, with a hint of hing, stone fruit again, and I think the vinous notes as well. Solid stuff, neat character.

500mL bottle, pours a somewhat hazy pale golden blonde with a small white head. Aroma is wonderfully complex, with fragrant wild barrels, various wild critters, and some oak -- pretty vinous overall. Flavour is likewise very complex, with lots of wild yeast, vinous notes, grape must and grape skins, and oak. Carbonation is on the slightly high side, but is totally fitting. Brilliantly constructed, with that really sublime vinous character showcasing on the finish. Really great.
