Do you remember your first shandy? No? Neither do we but we certainly won’t forget this one. Our take on a traditional British golden ale with a twist sees copious amounts of lemon peel in the boil, fermented with our favourite kviek yeast and finished with generous amounts of cascade hops from our pals at Myrtle Meadows in the Pemberton Valley. The result is a beer bursting with limonata, undercurrents of ripe tropical fruit and just a touch of grass. A beer to be enjoyed any place, any time.

So a lemon golden ale. Hazy, but the colour is dull. Yeasty and lemony on the palate. Yup, the base beer is missing something. The lemon is not especially powerful, either. So this is more of a muddle up beer that isn’t knocking me out.

On tap at Luppolo, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Nose is lemony, with light bready malt and some citrus. Flavour is citric, with lemon zest and crisp biscuity malt. Not a whole lot going on—very citric finish. Okay.

Poured from the tap. Cloudy pinkish orange with white head. Lemon and light rhubarb. Fairly light with mild citrus and tartness. Okay.
