The Kapitan Czech Pilsner is an homage to our co-founder, Dave Thomas, who passed away in August of 2020. It was a hard year for Lighthouse to lose Captain Dave, and so in his honour, we present Kapitan, a Czech Pilsner that Dave would have loved. This is a benefit brew, with proceeds going to Arctic Net, an environmental organization close to Dave’s heart.

Poured from the tap. Clear blonde with small white head. Fairly clean, simple hay, mild grass hops. I feel like this is leaning more toward a German pils than a Czech pils. Okay.

473 ml bottle. Pours a clear darkish amber with full head. Aromas of sulphur, cereal and bready malts. Flavors of grain and cereal with a bit of cardboard and skunk. Pretty heavy and malty.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Blond colour, clean. Aroma of hay, some malt. Mild malt flavour, the mouthfeel is dry but round, the bitterness is ok, but the hop character is just slightly herbaceous, no high quality noble hops were sacrificed for this beer.
It's better than macro, it's drinkable, but it's nothing to dream about.

473mL can, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out grassy hops, nice bitterness bite, and crisp crackery malt. Flavour is crisp and biting, with grassy hops, crisp crackery malt, some straw, and a lingering bitterness. Crisp and biting, nicely structured.
