Dark brown, dark fruits and big rich malts, slight tartness. Not bad for a dark beer with sourish thoughts.

On tap at Chuck's - Seward Park. Pours black with a beige head. Roasted malts, wild yeast, and whiskey barrels. Flavour has a very nice, dry roasted malt profile, rustic yeast, and smokey whiskey barrels. I'm not really sold on the sour stout thing, but this is very well-executed.

Poured from 500mL bottle (batch No. One). Dark brown with minimal beige head. Chocolate, subtle cinnamon, touch of chilli pepper, underlying whiskey notes, feint hint of funk, a little bit thin bodied. On par with original Rankin.

On tap at Brouwer's Cafe, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma is full of chocolate, with a little cinnamon, and gentle farmhouse notes. Flavour is indeed like a chocolate version of Rankin: there's whiskey barrels, farmhouse funk, chocolate, and light cinnamon. Somehow, this works beautifully. Very good.
