Old ale traditionally is made from the first runnings of a mild recipe, giving you a rich almost barleywine like base beer, which an extended boil adding to the depth in sweetness. This was the first runnings of last years dark mild, fermented with our choice cask ale strain, and then secondary fermented for 8 months with a Brett C, the mildest of the brett’s giving a subtle tropical fruit character without drying out the beer too much detracting from the English malt base.

On cask at Main Street, pours a deep dark brown with an amber tinge and a small tan head. Aroma brings out dark dried fruits, some sherry-like oxidation, and some bready malt. Flavour is much the same, with sherry-like oxidation, dark dried fruits, bready malt, and booze. It's clumsy and somewhat harsh; the cask doesn't suit a beer like this. Not very good.
